Sophie's Choice and "Meryl Streep"ing

Thursday, 5 July 2012

Meryl Streep is definitely my favorite actress. Don't get me wrong, she has made some bad decisions and Mama Mia she has made some. Oh, bad pun! Forgive me. But then sometimes she gets it very, very right. Like Julie and Julia, Iron Lady and Doubt to think of a few. The other day I watched a very bad movie, we will get to my reason of watching so many movies in a second. Anyway the bad movie did not have Meryl Streep in the movie. It was that movie Zack and Miri make a Porno. If you haven't seen it, you really are not missing out. Plot summary: two broke friends make a porno to raise money for rent and utilities. During the making of said porno the two friends realize they are in love with each other. Anyway during the really bad Zack and Miri movie, Miri says to Zack that she is going to "Meryl Streep" her scene with Zack. It got me thinking about that. "Meryl Streep"ing. There is really no actress as good as Meryl. Honestly, have you ever watched a movie with her in it and thought, "I do not believe this story at all"? Never. If you say you have, I think you're super lame. Yes. You are super lame. And I don't think "Meryl Streep"ing is anything like Meg Ryan's orgasm scene in "When Harry met Sally". Well what is "Meryl Streep"ing then, you ask me?

I think if you fundamentally want to learn about "Meryl Streep"ing you should watch Sophie's Choice. Sophie's Choice came out in 1982. A few years before I was born. The movie stars Meryl Streep as a Polish immigrant, Sophie. It is mesmerizing. Besides for Meryl's exceptional acting talent is her extraordinary beauty. Holy moly. Look at that face! I know this sounds a bit lesbo of me, but she has that quality that is rarely found.

I wrote this post because I think everyone should really try and watch this movie. Its not often you have a female lead that captivates you as hauntingly as this movie. Its a Schlinders list/Inglorious Basterds/ Valkerie from a female perspective. I don't want to tell you what it is about. Just watch it. Appreciate it. It is a masterpiece. Learn how to "Meryl Streep". I think we all need to "Meryl Streep" life sometimes.

O and about me and why I was watching so many movies: over the last month I was not too well dear blogger friends. Truth be known I have this. I was in hospital twice. I was flat on my back and could not move or walk. It had me watching a lot of movies. I think I had to "Meryl Streep" to keep positive.

What is your favorite Meryl Streep movie?
