Being Young

Friday, 24 June 2011

I just mouth-vommed a lil trying to imagine one day fifty years from now, rediscovering my blog. This is my 100th post. Kinda scary!

Ok back to the present:

Yesterday, I managed to drag my butt off to the post box. Looky look what I found:

The Young Gay Guys Guide to Safer Gay Sex

If you're an avid reader of my blog you would've read about my husband several times. Husband is an illustrator, based in Stellenbosch, Cape Town. We met whilst we were studying and that's where our romance blossomed. It was great, long walks in the botanical gardens, wine and pizza, a love of movies, followed by his pirouetting out of the closet in a feather boa and landing in the splits three years ago now.

Along with being the most talented, driven and motivated person I know, husband is also my bestest friend in the world. I love him more than some members of my family, because he is my family.

Stellenbosch and Cape Town has proven to be a great place for husband to explore many things, and I don't just mean his sexuality. It has launched his career in a way which would've been unimaginable up north in the conservative place I live in.

On 14 May, this year, a year of hard work finally came into fruition for my beloved. Robin Malan and Roberto Millan (husband) launched their book - The Young Gay Guys Guide to Safer Gay Sex at the Franschhoek Literary Festival. The book advises young gay men about how to have great sex and be safe about it. The legendary Pieter Dirk Uys calls the book "clear, clever, funny, sexy and so so so needed". Husband illustrated ALL the images.

Copies retail for R80 from good book stores or you can purchase a copy directly from Junkets (publishers).

Husband will be exhibiting more of his great work  as part of a collaborative group exhibition and visual art performance event entitled Co/Mix (Comic Art/mixed Media 2011) on the main program of the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown festival this year (29 June - 14 July). So if you happen to be in the area, please let us know what you think!
