Something to Smile about

Cracked lips are one of the most horrible conditions in winter. No matter what, my lips end up cracking and burning and going numb. Thankfully products have been invented to combat this horrid condition. Before I get to the product, I have to tell you a little story. When I was in university, I had two really close friends that I would do projects with. We would try everything in winter to guard against dreaded cracked lips. I remember one winter, the tallest of my friends suggested we use nipple cream. Nipple cream for those out there who do not know, is cream breast-feeding mothers use on their nipples to keep 'em supple after all that sucking. Suffice to say, we went through a nipple cream period. One day the three of us were working away in the computer lab, when our male computer lecturer asked us if any of us had lip balm. All we had was nipple cream, cleverly disguised in a nameless container. So this is me outing us, we gave him nipple cream which he happily smothered all over his lips. It's even weirder if you can imagine a computer lecturer… Reminiscing over this story made my day. Anyway, I recommend Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Skin Protectant if you have cracked lips. It's great for more than dry lips, it works wonders on stings, dry skin, sunburn and even cuts.

Burt's Bee's lifeguard lip balm works quite well, but it does leave a white coating on your lips-- so only use it under lipgloss. As does vaseline. There's an even better solution to your winter woes, however... Migrating between hemispheres to avoid the winter altogether!
