Grey Skies

Monday, 2 May 2011

I have been struck down by a fluish-cold virus/brain rape again (!). I don't know what is wrong with me! I think it's stress. Anyway to while away my snot, I watch "Mildred Pierce" from start to finish in bed. I have spoken about husband before, but now I must publicly announce that I have been cheating on him. Husband, I have a new gay lover. His name is King Greg Cattell. King gave me Mildred Pierce.

Mildred Pierce aired on the 27th of March 2011 on HBO in the USA. It is based on a book of the same name by James M. Cain written in 1941. The five part miniseries is set in the 1930's and tracks the rags-to-riches, romance and life-story of Mildred Pierce. It is simply beautiful. The miniseries stars Kate Winslet as the lead, Mildred Pierce. Winslet is perfect, as always in all period pieces. Her character also makes you have an unnatural craving for chicken and waffles and home-made pie. The show also stars Evan Rachel Wood as Mildred's narcissistic daughter, Veda Pierce. It's strange how Wood is always type cast as an over-sexed teenager. Maybe she likes it. After all she did date Marilyn Manson.

The show is filled with drama and suspense unlike most I have seen in a very long time! The miniseries had many echos to Revolutionary Road (one of my favorite movies) in which Winslet also starred. Here's a link to the official site: http://www.hbo.com/mildred-pierce/index.html. Hope you can track it down and watch it too, let me know your thoughts about if you do!
