The Royal Wedding featuring Alexander McQueen

Saturday, 30 April 2011

You have no idea how ecstatic I was when Kate Middleton stepped out yesterday and the TV commentator announced that her wedding dress was designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen. As you have gathered, I am the biggest McQueen fan. I am also a big Kate Middleton fan, big girl crush happening right here. Gosh she looked so beautiful! The dress was perfect. There have been many comparisons to Grace Kelly and Diana, but I have to say no bride wants to be compared to another. The Duchess of Cambridge looked individually exquisite. I am sure a lot of William fans will be sad. My sister had a crush on him when we were growing up. Suffice to say, she gave up that dream some time ago. Personally I can't stop looking at the wedding pictures, it was a truly magical event!

Ok and for the readers who don't know who Sarah Burton is and why I was so happy, here is a quick read: Sarah Burton is creative director of the house of Alexander McQueen. Sarah was Alexander McQueens right hand woman before his tragic suicide last year. She started as an intern in 1996. She presented her first womenswear collection without McQueen last year at Paris Fashion Week. She has kept a very low profile and was probably chosen because of this. She is 36 and comes from Manchester, so the design was proudly British. Sarah is said to work in the same style as her mentor but adds a fresh twist of femininity.  Burton is best known for designing a billowing red and black dress worn by Michelle Obama to a state dinner last year as well as working with a string of other celebrities including Lady Gaga, Cate Blanchett and Gwyneth Paltrow.
